Derek Allan’s Texas BBQ
Who: Derek Allan’s Texas BBQ in Fort Worth
You might be wondering what all the fuss is over yet another BBQ restaurant in Texas? Well, this isn’t just any BBQ joint in Texas. According to a recent article published by our neighbors over at the Dallas Observer, “Fort Worth is absolutely killing it in the new barbecue right now.” Derek Allan’s joins the ranks with other popular BBQ joints in the area including Heim, Panther City, Flores and Joe Riscky’s just to name a few.
You should definitely watch the video to learn more about why his approach to this whole thing is unique, but we’ve made a few notes per usual below just in case.
What: More Craft BBQ in Fort Worth
Since opening in May of this year, Derek Allan’s has quickly become one of the most popular BBQ restaurants in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. His journey began in 2015 with a dream and a trailer built by hand in the 100 degree Texas heat. He set up shop slinging BBQ on the weekends in Grapevine, TX. After only a few months, he and his wife had acquired a loyal following of avid BBQ fans, which eventually led them to open their first brick and mortar restaurant in Fort Worth, TX in 2019; however, that wasn’t without but a few setbacks and a whole lot of sacrifice.
I was almost ready to give up when this spot popped up so we went all in and trusted God to provide and it’s working out so far.
Why: All Things Wagyu + Everything from Scratch + Really, Really Good People
When you eat at Derek Allen’s, you know you’re getting some of the highest quality meat Texas has to offer. He sources all of his beef product from Wagyu Excelente via Gearheart Ranch in Midloathian, TX. He also built his own pits, makes his own rubs and even concocts his own vanilla extract that’s used in all of the dessert menu items.
I believe if you’re truly passionate about something, you want to do it to the best of your ability.
In addition to the outstanding food, Derek has a hard working group of friends and family behind him that make the experience that much more enjoyable. His wife, Brittany, can be seen running the register during business hours, manning the BBQ pits and managing lots all the other odd jobs that come along with running your own business — not to mention they also have two young sons that have been known help out around the shop, too!
How: Just Go, Like Now
As with any BBQ joint worth waiting for, Derek Allan’s regularly sells out before 2:00 p.m. so you’ll want to plan ahead. There’s usually a line before they open at 11:00 a.m. Also, be sure to ask about their secret menu item, and tell them that The Noted Experiment sent you if this is your first time hearing about it.
Derek Allan’s is located near the hospital district in Fort Worth off of 8th and Rosedale.
